Features of the new site
Our new website is second to none. It has features that are specifically designed to leverage the internet and improve our ability to network with each other.
The tools in the People Search, Business Center and Messaging Center allow us to truly get to know each other and perform as one great team with a commitment to excellence. People Search allows you to easily find and contact other members and maintain your privacy. People Search currently has 6 types of searches: Search by Location, Chapter, Dates Attended FAMU, Profession, Greek Organization and Extra Curricular Activities. Use the Location Search to find members by last name, first name, city, state, and/or zip. The Location Search can be very helpful when arriving in a new city for job relocation, vacationing, or attending a new school. Contact fellow members to help you get acclimated to the new area. Use the Profession Search to find members by profession, city, state, and zip. The Profession Search can be a very powerful collaboration tool. Use the Profession Search to find fellow members for a given profession to conduct business with or to create news groups, etc. For example, if you are looking a dentist or pediatrician in your area, use the Profession Search to locate members in your area. You can use the Dates Attended, Greek Organization and Extra Curricular searches when trying to find old college friends or when creating collaboration groups. Last but not least, the People Search section contains a Chapter Search. This can be used to find out who online belongs to other FAMUNAA chapters.
The business center is designed to empower our members with the tools necessary to maximize collaboration and networking for professional and personal growth opportunities. If you are a business owner or recruiter looking for students or perspective candidates for a job opportunity, not only can you post the job lead, but you can also search for candidates that meet basic criteria for your job opening. Anyone can post a job lead. If you know about a job opening where you work, give a fellow member an inside track on a job. Many times knowing is half the battle. If you are thinking about a new job, you can post a resume snippet. By doing this, you let others in the organization know what you have to offer. Members can also create bulletin boards. The bulletin boards allow members to post information on a variety of topics (fund raisers, local events, business opportunities, help wanted, general communication, etc.). Virtual Groups are a very powerful empowerment and collaboration tools. Just define your interest, setup a group and see if others share your interest. If they do then you can collaborate with other people about your favorite topic or hobby. Virtual Groups give members the ability to create groupings that can be used to email each other. Members can belong to an unlimited number of virtual groups. The creator and its members can use the Virtual Groups to send messages. For example, if you were a member of a virtual group named Team Technology, when emailing using that group name, the email will go to every member of that group. The business center also allows you to share information you know about scholarships and see what is happening at other chapters.
The messaging center is designed to empower our members with the tools necessary to maximize communicating and networking for professional, community, and personal reasons. In the messaging center, members can send emails by location, using personal address books, by local chapters, or virtual groups. These emails can be sent in two ways. They can be sent to the person's email address or you can send a message via the system and the mail will appear the next time the person uses the system. When the mail is sent via the system, the messaging center is where you can go to see your mail. The messaging center is also the place you can go to participate in discussion groups or join chat rooms. These are some examples of the power of our new website.
